I was working at a different station than my normal one this past week and ran across some material that a Church had left there to invite people to visit their church. I’m sure there was likely a fruit or gift basket of some sort as well, however what I saw were two different brochures. The first was just a little something about their church, and the second was this:
My immediate thought was, “You’ve gotta be kidding me.” My only thought was that this seemed to be a horrible way to invite someone to their church. Nothing says ‘Come visit our church’ like the 10 Commandments….
Make no mistake about it, I’m a huge fan of the 10 Commandments, because without a realization of the depth of our wretchedness we don’t understand our need for a Savior from those sins. There has to be an emphasis on the Law to point to Christ. However, I just can’t see any real benefit in leaving the 10 Commandments to try and invite others to your church.
What about you?
Would you go to a church after they used the 10 Commandments to invite you?
Do you think this is an effective method to invite others/ reach your community?
I’d love to hear your opinions!
